Sugherificio Molinas has joined the ECCELSI project to promote circular economy and industrial symbiosis.

We are honoured and proud that our cork factory has been identified as a strategic partner and centre of excellence within the ECCELSI project, ‘Circular Economy: Exercising the Leverage of Industrial Symbiosis’, an initiative promoted by the Foundation for Innovation and Entrepreneurial Development (ISI).
The ECCELSI project aims to combine the competitiveness of SMEs with climate change mitigation by activating industrial symbiosis pathways in key sectors of the green and blue economy. The project aims to establish a network of relationships between public and private organisations at local and cross-border levels to reduce waste and environmental impact while generating concrete benefits for participating companies, such as reduced disposal and procurement costs.
The project is based on four main pillars.
- Activate a territorial system in which each technical partner acts as a facilitator of industrial symbiosis processes, monitoring local production needs and contributing to the creation of new circular supply chains.
- Developing a digital platform to match supply and demand for waste and by-products.
- Organise capacity-building activities for SMEs and stakeholders to strengthen their skills in the circular economy and industrial symbiosis, and to promote beneficial collaborations between companies.
- Financing industrial symbiosis pilot projects capable of generating shared value between companies and the territory.
In this context, on July 9, our cork factory welcomed representatives from Confindustria Centro Nord Sardegna and the Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna in Pisa to talk about and show our concrete commitment to increasingly sustainable and circular production. The aim of the visit was to identify possible connections between production chains by analysing waste flows and by-products that could be reintroduced into the cycles of other companies. This is an important first step towards the implementation of real and feasible industrial symbiosis practices.
The purpose of visiting various selected companies was to identify and promote the ‘zero waste’ solutions already in place, which companies like ours have adopted for years to generate a positive environmental, competitive, and innovative impact.
This further confirms our commitment to sustainability, circularity and collaboration between companies, demonstrating that it is concrete and deeply rooted. It is also capable of transcending regional boundaries to create virtuous synergies and contribute to a more responsible, planet-friendly industrial future.
